Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a leading film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
