The New Mayor Vows a 'Fresh Chapter' for The Big Apple in Maiden Address
On his first day in office, Zohran Mamdani pledged to “reimagine” New York City, promising “a different age” and an audacious start to his tenure.
An Unprecedented Mayor
The 34-year-old figure, who was a virtually unknown state assemblyman, is the city's first Muslim mayor. He additionally marked a milestone by being the first to be sworn in using the Islamic holy text.
